COACHING STAFF
Coaching Philosophy
Our volleyball program is committed to fostering a positive and supportive environment where athletes can develop their athletic skills, build character, and achieve their full potential as an athlete and young woman. We believe that high school sports are an integral part of a well-rounded education, providing valuable life lessons in teamwork, resilience, and perseverance. Our coaches strive to create a culture of excellence, emphasizing hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship. By empowering our athletes to believe in themselves and their abilities, we aim to inspire them to become confident, successful, and compassionate young women.
Varsity Coach
Karla Prince
Coach Karla Prince, a 2003 graduate of Tully High School, was a key member of Black Knight teams that won league and regional championships during a time when state championships were not attainable due to playing in the winter season. Karla was named First Team All-State as a junior and senior, and named Second Team All-State as a sophomore. Karla also excelled in soccer and lacrosse, earning All-CNY honors in both sports. After high school, Karla went on to play Division II volleyball (NE-10 Conference) and Division I lacrosse (MAAC Conference) at LeMoyne College, earning All-Conference and All-Tournament honors.
Prior to coaching for the Westhill Warriors, Karla began her coaching career as a Graduate Assistant for the LeMoyne College Women's Volleyball program. She also spent time as Corcoran's Varsity Head Coach, Baldwinsville's JV coach, and a modified coach at Westhill. She currently coaches her daughter in the 12U Club SyrV volleyball program.
Coach Prince is entering her 7th year coaching for the Westhill Warriors and 10th year teaching in the district. When asked about her experience at Westhill, Coach Prince says, "There is nothing more special than living, working, and coaching in the Westhill community. I teach 6th graders and many of them choose to play volleyball and end up on my varsity team. I love contributing to the success of our female athletes and it's an honor to be a small part of their journey, as so many excellent coaches were for me."
Junior Varisty and Modified 7 Coach
Karl Caputo
Coach Karl Caputo began his coaching career as an assistant at Central Square in 1997 as a high school junior under the guidance of Kay Barton. He went on to assist the SUNY Cortland women’s team in 1999 and helped establish the first women’s club volleyball team at SUNY Cortland in 2001. At the same time, Coach Caputo served as the president, coach, and treasurer of the men’s volleyball team for most of his college career at Cortland from 1999-2005.
As a player Karl earned All-League honors in high school at Central Square, started on the SUNY Cortland club team all six years he attended for his undergrad and masters degrees, and had the opportunity to start on the Central Region Empire State Games team as a middle, right, and left side in various years between 1997 and 2010.
Coach Caputo is currently a physical education teacher at Westhill High School. He is undoubtedly the reason most Westhill girls play club volleyball, which has laid the foundation of a successful program. Westhill won the Class B New York State High School Volleyball Championships, back-to-back, in 2018 and 2019. When asked about his proudest coaching memory, he said, "Winning our second state championship was special because I watched the young ladies celebrate with each other. Remembering them as quirly 7th graders on the modified team five years earlier and realizing how far they had come was inspiring. Yes, their hard work on the court paid off but seeing the friendships they formed off of the court was the best part. It truly was a great day to be a Warrior."
Varsity Assistant Coach
Margo Dillon
Coach Margo Dillon is a graduate of Oswego High School with an extremely successful volleyball career. She was twice awarded the All-CNY Player of the Year honor in 2013 and 2014.
She went on to have a successful college career as an outside hitter for the Division II Women's Volleyball program at LeMoyne College. Margo led her team to LeMoyne's first ever NCAA tournament appearance in volleyball. As a Dolphin, she totaled 545 kills and 446 digs.
Coach Dillon is entering her 3rd season at Westhill. Prior to her time with the Westhill Warriors, Margo began her coaching career with Club SyrV and Sandy Creek High School. When asked about her interest in coaching, Coach Dillon says, "Being competitive is in my nature. I grew up with four brothers and competing was part of our family culture. Playing volleyball taught me so much about overcoming adversity and being a good friend and teammate. I coach so I can pass on some of the same lessons to the next generation of strong young women."
Modified 8 Coach
Sarah Kurro
Coach Kurro is a 2001 graduate of Dolgeville High School with a boastful volleyball career. She was named First Team All State as a sophomore, junior, and senior - an honor that very few athletes every achieve! In college she is the all-time assist record holder at Division III Russell Sage. Coach Kurro was also a standout soccer, softball, and track star.
She has coached at the varsity-modified level for 8 years at Henninger High School and is entering her 2nd season with the Westhill Warriors. She will be a huge asset to our program with her myriad of coaching and playing experiences.
When asked about her hopes and dreams for coaching, she says, "I hope to foster a love of the game for our Westhill athletes, just like my high school coaches did for me. In a few years I may coach my own daughter and that is a beautiful opportunity in life to know that the sport you love may also be passed down to your own child." Coach Kurro's daughter is currently a 5th grader who wants to be a professional volleyball player some day!
